CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Board of Trustees of Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital announced today that the hospital name has changed to Cape Regional Medical Center.

This name change is reflective of the enhancements and innovations that the hospital has achieved in recent years, as well as the plans for further advancements in the future. Since 2004 the hospital has introduced many new services including inpatient dialysis services, lifesaving IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) technology in the Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Radiology Suite, and a Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) which has enabled the Radiology and Cardiology Departments to view images electronically.

With its affiliation with the University of Pennsylvania Health System in April 2006, the Medical Center enhanced the capabilities of its cardiac and cancer programs. University of Pennsylvania physicians staff the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Cape Regional Medical Center, and the Cancer program now has access to over 200 clinical trials so that patients no longer have to travel for these vital services.

The Joint Commission recently awarded their Gold Seal of Approval to the Medical Center. This prestigious award reflects the high standards of care that is provided for all patients. In addition, during each of the past two years, the Emergency Department has ranked in the top ten percent in the country for patient satisfaction and inpatient scores continue to reach new record levels every year.

Later in 2007, the Medical Center will add on-site MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). And, over the next 18 months every patient room in the Medical Center will be renovated to provide a nicer environment for our patients. “These high standards of care, together with our investments in state-of-the-art technologies have created ‘A New Era in Healthcare’ for the residents and visitors of Cape May County,” stated Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, President and CEO. “Our new name, Cape Regional Medical Center, reflects the growth and advancements we have made and affirms our commitment to providing the highest level of care to our community,” Carrocino added.
